As per the Census 2011, In India out of the 121 Cr population, 2.68 Cr persons are ‘disabled’ which is 2.21% of the total population.
Among the disabled population 56% are males and 44% are female. In the total population, the male and female population are 51% and 49% respectively. Majority (69%) of the disabled population resided in rural areas and 31% resided in urban areas ( 1.86 Cr disabled persons in rural areas and 0.81 Cr in urban areas). In Uttrakhand 1.76 to 2.00 Percentage of disabled population to total population.
Moved by these indicators, U.S.R. INDU SAMITI started a Residential School and Skill Development Training Center for Special Needs Children in a village of Uttrakhand. Under the program the NGO has successfully served 72 Special Needs Children of different district of Uttrakhand. But the cases are more and more for the NGO to tackle in this field and the number of children’s with special need in our residential school is increasing rapidly. At present we are imparting education and skill training with 72 Special Needs children.
