URVEE celebrates more than 25 years of woman empowerment making handmade Paper Crafts from recycled Paper and saying "No" to Plastic!
We are extremely proud and happy to announce that our unit Urvee has completed 25 years in November, 2018 in this mission of women empowerment and protecting the environment at the same time. We started our Social entrepreneurial journey in 1993 with a mission to empower needy women and girls with free skill development training in screen printing, paper crafts, book binding, tailoring, embroidery, terracotta jewelry making, paper quilling, block printing, watercolor painting, quilt making and even home-composting! Urvee continues to work with it's mission with even today after facing virus related difficulties, two lockdowns and extreme financial constraints.
It's been more than 25 year's long and amazing journey of two friends, Rekha Mavinkurve and Nandini Karanje, who wanted to give back to the Society they lived in and make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate. Mainly women who worked as maids in their neighborhood having very little or no educational assets. The goal was to teach a craft that was not only unique but also eco-friendly in nature and earn something from making them in their free hours. Hand holding them and assistance is being provided to them at every stage from sourcing materials, creating products, finding customers, marketing, keeping accounts, and maintaining stocks.
Today Urvee Charitable Trust is a registered trust and proudly stands as a manufacturing unit of handmade paper products, Kora and cloth bags, and jute products.
To celebrate this milestone and tell our amazing story we brought out a Souvenir and did a fund raiser to meet the printing expenses, appreciation awards to our staff and venue expenses.
This Souvenir will be a great source of inspiration and motivation to other like minded individuals and talented women. The Souvenir showcases the numerous interesting articles featured in newspaper and magazines about the work at Urvee, pictures, workshops conducted, beneficiaries, programs/events conducted, awards received and articles written by well wishers and supporters throughout this journey. This interesting and informative souvenir was released on 24th of March at the Canara Union, Malleswaram Bangalore, 2019. We thank all our supporters who helped us fulfil this with their generous donations towards our cause.
