"I want to be a gynaecologist"
"I want to be rich without working, and I have a plan for it"
(Now that's something !)
These are only some of the responses we got when we asked the question "Tell us about your dream", to a class of 150 students at Jawahar Navodya Vidyalaya in Chandigarh. These young dreamers are students from class 10 and 12, a bunch of extremely brilliant students, who have the spark, the passion and the intent to achieve their dreams. The only thing they lack is the right information, the right direction, and the right mentor.
At the Indian School of Business, we have come together to launch an initiative called "Udaan", wherein we will work with these students throughout the year to make them more aware and informed towards making the right career choice for their future. In our very first workshop with them, we were impressed by how fearlessly they dream and how determined they were to achieve their goals (something we got to learn from these kids). In the year ahead, we plan to hold many more of such career awareness workshops that would equip them with the right information so they do not miss out on any critical aspect of getting into their dream college.
- Class 10 students: We plan to conduct psychometric career guidance tests for these students, which will not only make them aware of the various careers options they can explore, but also map their skills and strengths to careers they can pursue.
- Class 12 students: We plan to build a digital repository of all the entrance examinations conducted by various educational institutes, across the country, for different streams, their application deadlines, documents required for admission, fees structure and government scholarships available to fund their education. Why? Because Rajat missed out on his IIT admission only because he was not aware of all the documents required for the admission, AND, he did not plan a backup, because he was not aware of any backup institute.
