'Dream Big and Grow Big' is the mantra that we, at Bright Orange Foundation give to our children. We want to break the vicious circle that "a person is poor because he is poor". We are aware that the time to do that is today, tomorrow may be too late and the immense potential of this population may get wasted- loss of individuals as well as the nation.
Bright Orange Foundation has taken an initiative to help the children in slums dream big and enable them to realize their dreams. Currently, we are running three schools in Ghata Gaon, Gurugram with an enrolment of over 300 children. Parents of these children work as construction workers, small tea vendors, rag pickers, household workers, and so on. While they migrated with the sole objective of a bright future for their children, the situation in the Millennium city betrayed their hopes. The government education system is passive and fees for private schools are prohibitive. Less than 1% of children go got school in different pockets of slums covering 300- 400 households in each pocket.
In this context Bright Orange is working to help the children in Gurgaon slums dream big and make them capable of realizing their dreams. We are running informal education centers, wherein these children are prepared to get admission in the mainstream school. To accomplish this, basic literacy and the education appropriate for their age are given so that children can clear the school tests at the time of admission. As a next step, we support our children with remedial classes so that they do not get overwhelmed by the formal education system and also to ensure that they perform well.
As we talk of dreaming big, we focus on the all round growth of the children- they participate in dance, drawing, singing competitions, and win prizes. We are also enabling our children to identify and handle any type of abuse.
The need is tremendous, and being driven by heart, the Bright Orange team cannot ignore the huge need and the number of children is increasing day by day. Overall the community has about a thousand children. This means engaging more and more teachers so that we can ensure quality education. We also, desperately want a music teacher and a sports teacher. The only source of income so far is the personal resources of the founder which are proving to be inadequate now.
