Hi,
My name is Swati Nandy and I currently teach 39 bright and energetic second graders at an under-resourced school run by the Corporation of Chennai. I am part of a movement called Teach for India, which aims to eliminate educational inequity in the country.
My kids are from families who are not very well off and make do with very little. Probably slightly more difficult to imagine is the fact that their economic and social impairment isn't, and shouldn't be, an indicator of their potential and curiosity to explore and learn.
My class is called "The Dreamers" and their motto is - All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.
A major problem we face is we do not have class room furniture. In spite of many promises, we are yet to get it.I made a promise to myself that during this year itself, I will be procuring furniture for my students.
My other plans for the upcoming year include getting an LCD projector for the school (we watch so many videos in class!), expanding the class library, taking my class out on more field trips, buying class room furniture etc.
As you might have guessed, this is where I seek your help. Please contribute to my classroom funds, and help me create a safe and exciting learning environment for my students.
I am confident that your support will have a tremendous positive impact on each of my students lives.
Thank You !
