Chand (Bappa da) is a trans activist who is one of the pioneers of the LGBTQ movement in Kolkata. In the past she has been known to lend out her previously owned home to community NGOs which were starting out, the first pride march also started from her rooms. However due to some very difficult years she is now homeless and ill. Recently Bappa da suffered a stroke which paralysed her left side. While she is regaining functionality gradually she needs a fulltime attendant; regular physiotherapy, medication and food. All of these add up to an exhorbidant amount which she cannot afford. She is also temporarily staying at an LGBT space in the city, but eventually will have to be moved to a rented space.
Her expenses include:
fulltime attendant: 600/day = 18000/month
Physiotherapy: 300/day = 9000/month
Medicines: 250/day = 7500/month
Miscellaneous costs (food and bills) = 6000/month
Rent: 5000/month (minimum)
Total : Rs 44500/month
Estimate: approximately Rs 4,50,000 a year until her recovery. The amount we have requested will ensure at least 2 such years of certainty for her. Her expenses include:
