Support Ana Raissa's Battle for Life

Ana Raissa Da Costa is 29 years old and has been suffering from multiple serious medical complications since the last four months. She has been in and out of the hospital till 1st June 2018 but since then has been completely hospitalized to undergo multiple surgeries to correct holes in the trachea and esophagus. Doctors are very pleased with her fighter spirit but are hoping to find a long term solution for her condition.

From the start of this year till today (19th July 2018), her medical bills are touching INR 25 lakhs. Her immediate family and friends have borrowed money to clear about 50% of the expenses thus far. Family is in immediate need of raising more funds to clear the balance 50% of the payment. In addition, they also need funds to sustain the treatment for the coming weeks.

All funds donated will directly go to Ana's account and will only be used for medical treatment and rehabilitation.

Please refer below the technical note from the doctor handling Ana's case.

This is to state that Ms.Ana Raisa Da Costa, 29 years old female, bearing UHlD No-AHB.0000806648, IP No-AHBIP6303O was admitted under my care on 12/06/2018. She underwent Thoracoscopic decortication for empyema right lung on 05/06/2018. Thereafter she required a surgery for perforation of the esophagus. Adhesions at the trachea resulted in a tracheal defect needing stenting of the trachea.

A colonic conduit stent was also needed to facilitate healing locally. Presently she is being treated for infections in the lung and mediastinum with antibiotics. She is being replenished nutritionally by a feeding jejunostomy.

She requires further treatment for nutritional build up, infection control and local healing of the tracheal and colonic conduit and may require reparative surgery for the same at a later date, if local healing is delayed or if infection worsens.

Dear Supporters, Well-wishers, Friends & Family,
Thanks for your continued prayers and support. On Saturday, 22nd September, Ana was operated on, at Sir Gangaram Hospital, Delhi, by Dr Prof Arvind Kumar & team.
In his words it was one of the most complex cases he has handled in his medical career. There were 3 parts to the surgery. 1)The colon used to reconstruct the esophagus (in the past surgery) had to removed. A bag at the end of the neck has been made to collect the saliva. 2)A plastic surgeon harvested muscle & skin from the chest area to repair the trachea rents. 3)Finally the main surgery was performed.
Ana was taken in at 11:00am on Sat, the surgery was complete at 4:00am on Sunday morning.
Though Ana was quite scared before the surgery, she has been settling well since.
On Monday she was taken off the ventilator & on Tuesday she was moved from the ICU to HDU unit.
Today, she was made to sit in a chair & walk on the treadmill.
With all the prayers, best wishes and support we are hopeful that her recovery will be faster than expected.
A sincere thanks to you for coming forward in our hour of need. May God bless you.
Love, prayers and a grateful heart.

Dear Supporters, Well-wishers, Friends & Family,

Thank you for your continued support and prayers for Ana.
On Sunday 19th August, she was flown to Delhi in the evening, she was accompanied by a doctor & her mother. While she was on oxygen support,  she could sit, so she could travel by a normal flight. All her parameters were normal all through the flight & she did manage to get some sleep as well.
The team of doctors at Gangaram Hospital Delhi were awaiting her arrival. After examining & monitoring all vital parameters & taking a full handover from the accompanying doctor, she was admitted to the HDU unit under observation. Late yesterday evening 20th Aug she was shifted to a ward.
A team of doctors is studying the entire case history, before they decide on the next steps. The next few days and weeks are very crucial for Ana, so your prayers and support are needed more than ever.
We take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to every single person who were involved in Ana’s treatment & care and the support of friends who so generously gave their time to be with us.
May God bless each one of you.

Dear Supporters,

We would like to share a quick update on Ana’s condition.

She has been a great fighter, fueled by the outpouring of support and prayers from hundreds of people such as you.

She has been in and out of the ICU over the last few weeks. Although her progress is very slow, she is stable and continues to be treated by a team of very committed doctors and specialists.

We have now been recommended to move her to Delhi under the supervision of Dr. Arvind Kumar at Sir Gangaram Hospital Delhi, for the future course of treatment.

Latest discussion with a specialist in Delhi indicate that there is a long road to complete recovery.

We are preparing for this very significant move and request that you continue to keep her in your prayers and continue to extend your support. Every little bit matters and that keeping us going.

We are currently evaluating options on how to transport her to Delhi. She needs a constant oxygen supply during the flight as well. Once again, we are humbled by the overwhelming love and support shown by everyone.

Thank you very much for staying with us in this time.
Our gratitude is through our prayers for  each one of you and your family, that your kindness may be rewarded by God’s abundance.

Thank you once again.
Regards,
Shilpa Roy
