We have been working for the last 6 years to support female and marginal hill farmers in Uttarakhand to double their farm income.
This project is being proposed to support a farmer producer company
which have been formed to support hill farmers of 4 hilly districts of Uttarakhand. We have managed to combine the farmlands of individual farmers within villages and four to six villages have been unified to develop clusters. This has given us the perfect opportunity, for the first time in Uttarakhand for the bulk production of agriculture and horticulture products.
we have collected information on the dependency of hill community / farmers on horticulture, agriculture, medicinal and aromatic plants and currently large scale production of vegetables and spices is being done to support their livelihood. we are working in ninety-eight (N=98) villages in Six (N=4) districts Almora, Tehri, Pithoraghar, and Champawat.
To select the villages, various meetings were arranged with women, and marginal hill farmers in ninety-eight (N=98) villages spread across six (N=4) districts of Uttarakhand. We also received a list of all interested farmers duly signed by farmers interested in the project. After receiving the documents i.e., AADHAR card, land record, and photographs of about 5000 farmers from four districts we initiated the process of formal registration of farmer producer company.
Our team and farmers conducted inter/ Intra villages meetings at the Gram panchayat level we received approval letters for the consent of combining the farmland of different individual farmers for
commercial cultivation of cash crops. We have also received a list of all interested farmers duly signed by farmers interested in the project. After receiving the documents i.e., AADHAR card, land
record, and photographs of about 2000 farmers from four districts we initiated the process of formal registration of farmer producer company, which have been registered in the month of March 2019.
Action points have been identified with extensive meetings conducted with village communities which are as follows:
1. Production of seasonal vegetables, focusing on summer production at higher altitudes and winter production at lower altitudes.
2 Facilitating the growth of off-season (winter) vegetables during the summer season.
3. Creating high-quality branding of all horticultural produce from the state of Uttarakhand.
Establishment of the food processing unit for value addition of crops.
To attain these targets, we have achieved to develop clusters for large-scale production, so that transport costs could be reduced. We have mastered nursery techniques, plantation, harvesting, and post-harvesting techniques in organic farming. And now we are seeking support from our fellow sisters and brothers to help us in the establishment of the food processing unit for increasing the shelf life of produces / products and to do value addition to organic farm crops from the Himalayan belt of Uttarakhand India.
