The first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic raised havoc in the lives of trafficked women and their children inside the brothels of GB Road. In the midst of this chaos, Kat-Katha came forward to support the community and offered more than 1 lakh meals, healthcare support, skilling and alternate livelihood opportunities to over a thousand families in the community.

Your contributions enabled us to provide relief and resilience to the community and encourage them to make a choice for a new life.

Over the year, various women and children joined Kat-Katha’s academic, skill training and alternative livelihood initiatives and took the first difficult steps to move out of their brothels and start afresh. The women learnt employable skills and earned them with dignity through our HeARTshala and Field Projects and the children found a safe space to grow in our Bridge School.

Now in the second wave of the pandemic, operations on the field have halted due to the lockdown and a high infection risk at the red-light area. Production at HeARTshala has stopped, the children’s classrooms are shut and initiatives inside the brothels have to be limited. In the absence of this safe space and a steady income source the women and children are vulnerable to the social, emotional and economic trap of forced sex work.

During these tough times, Kat-Katha is striving to continue its projects online through various classes and training sessions for our women and children to ensure they continue to live and earn with dignity.

In collaboration with GramShree Trust, Kat-Katha is supporting these women and children in their journey to sustainable rehabilitation, learn new skills and find a niche for themselves by contributing to their continued engagement and sustenance. Your contribution will help us help offer:

  1. Monthly remuneration, house rent allowance, and medical expenses for all the women employed in our alternative livelihood and training projects
  1. Educational and medical needs of all the children enrolled in our Bridge School activity centre
