“Understanding is the first step to acceptance, and only with acceptance can there be recovery” J.K. Rowling, similarly state of hunger, poverty, helplessness and bewilderment can only be understood by those who endures. When it comes to understanding others, we rarely tax our imaginations and the majority of us fail to understand miseries, pain and misfortune of others. When I saw people brushing off their eyes even after witnessing the cruelty of human life. People’s insanity and cold-hearted behavior towards those who need help gave me a vision to do something for the ones who are in need.
I remember during school days I used to share my food with few hungry kids that my mother use to give me every day. Thereafter I started donating money for diseased people from my salary.
But later I felt that this is not what I want. Just handing out my money will not make any change.
I desired these people to be free from the cause of dysfunctions that is hunger and deprived source of awareness.
I asked my friends and relatives to join me in the initiative of ‘feeding the hungry’ but people started criticizing and took their step back so I decided to take out a part of my salary, went to an NGO in Gurugram itself, and distributed some food and stationary. I posted my pictures on social media through which I met people who share the same ideology.
And from there it all started. Gradually more and more people came and we instituted constant drives through which we were able to feed more than 15000 people in 6 months under Project Hunger conducted by Vishalakshi Foundation.
We named the foundation after my friend, who left us at a very young age.
This tragedy taught me that life comes with no guarantee. Due to which without taking much time I geared myself up for my dream and formed this NGO Vishalakshi Foundation.
We’ve faced struggle and criticism at every step. We’ve been called a money-making organization along with many other things.
We hassle every month for funding in different segments, like their creatives, talent hunts, medical facilities and, animal rescue. We do not have Government funds, corporate funds or any company sponsoring us. We only have individual inputs where most of our volunteers are students. We feed more than 5000 people in one month under our campaign Project hunger which we run in 7 cities(Lucknow, Banda, Amroha, Fatehpur, Gurgaon, Noida and Delhi) which is not easy yet not impossible. We are also feeding 120 kids regularly with mid day meals in Gurugram under our Mid day meal initiative and planning to feed 200 more kids from April 1, one time meal costs only 20 rupees and we are feeding them almost everyday except Sunday and holidays and spending approximately 575/- per kid per month.
I know my approach is authentic and honest. I know I will have to face these wrong interpretations but what matters is a determination with good intentions.
Whenever I meet these children I see hope in their eyes, that makes me feel positive and encourages to do more and keeps me away from negativity.
More than 7000 people die each day in India due to hunger in which 3000 are children.
The vision of Vishalakshi Foundation is to create 0% hunger and 100% education. We are heading towards the direction to create the biggest human chain in India working for the betterment of the society.
There are believed abstractions where we will be encouraging employment, women empowerment and child adoption where they can get a bright future.
