After spending all his life savings on his wife's breast cancer treatment in 2018, Vishal Nath is now struggling for money on his cancer treatment. The past year has been a traumatic experience for the Srivastava family. While Vishal and his daughter (Shreya) were trying hard to bring back Savita (Vishal's wife) on her feet, they merely considered their health conditions.
When Vishal's family was finally catching a breath, his health began to deteriorate. He experienced congestion while coughing. For some days Vishal thought, it was due to normal cough and cold, and with time he will get better. But, when a few nights passed with endless coughing, Vishal's daughter Shreya urged him to go to the doctor.
Shreya made an appointment in AIIMS Hospital, Delhi. Given Vishal's condition, the doctors suggested him to get a CT scan for better diagnosis. When the CT scan results came back, the doctors observed enlarged lymph nodes in Vishal's right and left paratracheal.
The doctors at AIIMS ordered bronchoscopy test to determine the exact condition. Though he was experiencing a lot of pain, till his bronchoscopy procedure, he was able to consume food. His condition got worse after the endoscopy, as his food pipe choked up. He was diagnosed with lung cancer.
My mother is constantly trying to hold up, but, she has also started growing weak. It's hard seeing my parents suffering from pain. I want to get my father the best treatment but with a salary of just 25k, it has become impossible for me. Also, I am paying my study loan which is making it even harder to meet the huge medical bills. Everything from our land to my father's lifesaving has gone into my mother's treatment and there is nothing left for him. With the help of my relatives, I have managed to get my mother's medicine and father's tests done. But, the treatment cost is unbearable.
I can't leave my job to take care of him as I am the sole breadwinner in my family. My mother is still in recovery and it becomes difficult to manage both work and regular hospital visits. My cousin tries to help out whenever possible but often it's me alone. I see my support centre, my father suffering and I don't know what to do.
As his food pipes were blocked, doctors recommended inserting a stent to keep the passage for liquid food open. The procedure alone amounted to 1 Lakh rupees. The further treatment cost of Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy is estimated to be 8-10 Lakhs.
