    from Kathua, Jammu & Kashmir

Most of the rural population around District Kathua, (Jammu and Kashmir) have less knowledge and more of fear psychosis of the Pandemic, COVID 19, and have halted their very livelihood, farming. To add more they do not have access to masks and neither the importance of wearing one to combat this pandemic. I wanted to create awareness about the issue and provide them with some sort of help that could keep them safe. I thought providing them with masks, sanitizers, soaps, and creating awareness about the issue could really help these people. But again the virus not only poses an imminent threat to their health but also to the sources of their livelihood.  After speaking to the Sarpanch I realized how extreme the situation has become leading to numerous people being unemployed. As a young woman whose goal is to empower others, I started brainstorming innovative solutions as to how can I generate employment whilst tackling the issue of CO-VID19. Eventually, I was able to come up with a solution wherein I identified three women with sewing machines at their homes who had lost their employment as domestic help due to the spread of CO-VID19 in my town. To further my project I ordered 100 masks from each of them (300 masks in total). The material used by them was provided by me that I collected with the help of the Sarpanch through collection bins which the Sarpanch was kind enough to provide and also have the cloth washed. The women charged 10 rupees per mask, As I am doing this initiative out of my pocket right now I was not able to do it on a large scale. But I want to take this initiative forward as I want to uplift more women in my district with the help of this and give them a sense of entrepreneurship.  Woodstock School has instilled in me the values which always prompt me to take steps to ensure community building. So now I am welcoming people throughout Jammu and Kashmir and my Woodstock family to be a part of this initiative through any means possible wherein you can contribute little amounts so that I can employ more women. Throughout my project, I have been grateful to have many mentors to name some Ms. Swati Shrestha, Mr. Ethan, Mr. Yousuf Ansari, Mrs. Mark, Mr. Steve, and many more. If you have any queries as to the specificities of the project I am available via email. Also please find attached the testimonies of my project and samples of the masks created
