My son Vihaan Joshi, who is now 4 years old, and has been battling the rare type of cancer called Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma for the last 1 year and 2 months, needs your support once again.
This cancer was detected in May 2020. After initial diagnosis, we took him to the Apollo Hospital in Chennai for the Proton radiation therapy, and on our return to Mumbai, also completed 14 cycles of chemotherapy as per the protocol of Intermediate risk of Rhabdomyosarcoma in March 2021, under the guidance of Dr Nisha Iyer, Paediatric oncologist in Surya Hospital, Santacruz, Mumbai. The mid evaluation PET scan showed good results in December 2020.
The PET scan was again conducted after the final chemotherapy in May 2021 to analyse Vihaan’s response to the treatment. And to our surprise, cancer had metastasised to his lungs (Metastasised meaning, the spread of cancer cells from the place where they first formed to another part of the body). At the moment, there are multiple lung nodules that are cancerous and he is now suffering from stage IV of Rhabdomyosarcoma, metastasised to the lungs.
After this diagnosis in May 2021, the chemotherapy regimen was changed and 3 cycles of new chemo protocol were given to him under the supervision of Dr Nisha Iyer, in Surya Hospital, Santacruz, Mumbai. Currently, he is undergoing Radiation treatment to lungs at HCG cancer Hospital, Borivali. The PET scan report after the new regiment of 2 chemotherapy cycles was not great and the doctor is of the opinion that he has less than 20% chances of survival. Our life is in the deepest despair.
The only ray of hope is now the CAR-T cell therapy, which is fairly new for solid tumours and right now, in the clinical trial phase in the USA. Unfortunately, such type of trial is currently nowhere to be found in India. So we contacted the Seattle Children Hospital in the USA and luckily, they confirmed that Vihaan is eligible for the trial.
But the treatment is way too expensive, much more than the earlier treatment’s total cost and we are not in a position to arrange such a huge amount on our own, which is why we need everyone’s help once again, this time to achieve a bigger goal.
The Seattle Children Hospital has given us the estimate of $1,60,000 which is around 1 Crore 22 Lakh rupees. The treatment can only start after we pay them the entire amount, and that is why we need to accumulate the funds as soon as possible to start the treatment at the earliest.
My family and I are in dire need of your help to save our little boy Vihaan from the clutches of Cancer and give him a childhood that he truly deserves.
We hope that you will help us in this desperate situation to make it possible for Vihaan to get the treatment at the right time and help our lovely boy to get a fair chance for a future; one that he’s so keen on seeing and has a mind full of dreams and plans that he would want to accomplish.
Thanking you in advance,
