Quality Medical Knowledge Foundation (QMed for short) is a trust doing unique work for medical education, research and practice. QMed fills in a gap in these areas by teaching and mentoring students and professionals to do systematic online searching to retrieve relevant and evidence based research updates.
Systematic literature searching is a skill not taught in our country's health sciences curriculum. As a result students and professionals lose precious time discovering relevant medical literature updates. If they master these skills,
a) They save precious time
b) Their research is based on good foundation
c) They find the right evidence for medical practice
Evidence is usually found in studies that pool the results of several large studies across the world)
In addition, researchers in the country can
i) Produce high quality Indian research, by speeding up their searching process and then writing good papers
ii) Create local evidence by not missing any study done on a topic, and then pooling the results of such studies.
So we are "change makers" in the health sciences education sector, creating a firm foundation for high level practice.
Since 2008, we have conducted over 200 workshops and delivered over 400 lectures. We had embarked on creating online courses so that we could reach all over India to share our skills and make the needed change. In June 2020 we launched our site - www.qmedcourses.in . Within two months two prestigious institutions joined our initiative - the first was AIIMS Bhubaneswar and the second was the Regional Medical Research Centre (an ICMR centre) also from Bhubaneswar. Three other major institutions (KMC Manipal, KMC Mangalore and Sikkim Manipal Institute) were already part of us, when we had our courses on a shared hosting platform. They are now being shifted to our own site
In order to share our skills and sustain our endeavours, we ask institutions for a moderate fee and individuals who are not part of any institution to give us a donation of their choice. In the long run we would like every stakeholder to make a small offering to sustain our efforts.
We need some support to reach the self-sustenance level. In all these years, the Founder's family and friends have been supporting this cause.
We know that our teaching is valued - thanks to the feedback we have received over the years, both for live events and for online courses. But the challenge is to make everyone - individuals and institutions understand that "They don't know what they don't know" and join the learning movement! Till then, we seek support.
We just mentioned about the quick growth in numbers on our online platform - to be specific we have over 1500 people enrolled in a span of two months. We wish to host our courses on a Cloud Platform so that we can accommodate really large numbers. We have budgeted for approximately Rs 5000 per month for cloud hosting and we are looking at raising the first year's hosting costs
