    This fundraiser will benefit

    Daily wage workers

    from Chennai, Tamil Nadu

CONTEXT:

As COVID-19 is growing exponentially, the people most affected by it will be those living in India’s unorganised sectors of the Indian economy. These are typically daily wagers, maids, house helps, construction site workers, plumbers, electricians, workers in small units, delivery boys, etc., and their financial well-being will be directly impacted by their inability to earn their daily wage.
Whereas those working in the health sectors who are putting their lives on the line in the fight against COVID-19, are in shortage of Masks, Sanitisers and Gloves, and are risking their lives by using temporary masks. We know that those who belong to the health sectors - Doctors , Final year Med-Students, Nurses , Those working on the streets disinfecting the places are the ones who are in direct contact with the virus whereas us, sitting idle at home having stocked up enough essentials already. And i believe we must stand united and help our fellow-mates who are putting their lives at stake for themselves and for us.
Humanity should not DIE!

Requirements are as follows:

(a) Food

A great amount of hourly/daily wages based workers do not have or will not have stocked up any sort of food or essential products to sustain this 21-day Quarantine period, and we are well aware as these people are the most exposed to the adverse effects caused by COVID-19.With absolutely no way to sustain this 21-day lockdown period,no way to cover expenses, workers like these will struggle in this inescapable Crisis. And will be in need of money for food and medicinal support.

And i believe it has to be us to run this initiative to help such workers cope with the crisis that has took nearly 15,000 lives already, by providing necessary support to individuals like these.

(b) Medicine

Basic necessities to avoid COVID-19 like - N95 masks, Sanitisers , and Gloves , which are not sufficient and affordable to these people. And also, these low-income households are already strained in good times to make ends meet, but this new threat makes it even more important for us to be able to provide immediate medical assistance (to address the basic Covid19 Symptoms) to these targeted households. As educated Indians we have a responsibility to take along the millions who are suffering. Our involvement here will be Community participation in conjunction with local authorities(Nearby police stations) to test those people who we are serving food and issuing the Virus-protecting products mentioned earlier, and to bring them to the attention of the health authorities if they show signs of the Infection.
Media has already stated those working in the health sectors are using temporary masks instead of N95 masks. Will be using the funds to buy bulk masks from medical suppliers and will be issued to those who are in adverse conditions of getting affected by the virus.

The Funds

This is our first-ever on fundraising. So, we have decided to start with a minimal amount of 10 lakhs. And our target is to Cover the whole Chennai,Tamilnadu and nearby Districts. We need volunteers, we need administration support to do this, we need help from the authorities for security, we need help from medical institutions for the health checks and we need delivery partners to run this initiative.

By our current estimates, the use of funds we foresee are as follows:

65% towards free preparation and food distribution, starting with a 100 percent initially.
34% percent towards medical supplies, thermometers, masks, gloves, soaps, sanitizers and social distancing devices
1% towards transportation costs

We see ourselves only as the first step to doing this, we are happy to even hand over the initiative to anyone who has the wherewithal and the experience and the scale to take it up and run it end to end, and keep ourselves in a volunteer role. This is just the initiation of the exercise. It will need unprecedented support for all of us to safely get through these tough times.

Operation:

The initial plan is the trial pilot in Adyar. We will tie up with nearby restaurants who are already putting up advertisements to provide food to the need, and already have gone live providing free food but doing it In-house will never work out at these times because a 21-days lockdown of the country has already begun. We are trying to identify a reputed Organisation (NGO) which has the passion and the wherewithal, to be able to carry out the food (and medicines) to help us with the last mile distribution in these areas. The fund will be used for the purchase of provisions and there won't be any direct payouts to the beneficiaries(Daily wage workers).

The local administration (local municipal authorities) will need to be roped in to provide help in identifying BPL beneficiaries,  who will help us identify the right people to be able to cater to in a meaningful manner.
.
We are conscious of the risk exposure to those who will rush to collect the food (and medicines) for which we will have to maintain social distancing rules, the local laws (Section 144). In this endeavor we will need the local administration’s permission to operate with these zones.  More importantly we will also need the Police support for helping us run this initiative and make sure it reaches its objective, without any impediment.

The above are aspects where any personal connection that you can provide us will help us in seeking the right combination which will help us steer forward together to help the needy in a concrete manner.

About the Fundraiser:

Vamsi raju , a student aged 20 and an Intern at 3G Institution of Research and Policy Studies HQ:IIT Madras Research Park have joined hands with Adhavan and Mukesh aged 20 as well. We three has prior experience working with NGOs eg: Child rights and you , World wildlife fund , thozhan , YUVA etc. and personally know other students who also have experience in working at various local NGOs and are desperate to stand by me to run this initiative. We will do it no matter what!
Being the Youth country (around 600 million youths in INDIA). It should be us who must take such Initiatives when it is needed the most rather than depending on someone else dreaming that someone will run such Initiatives.
And my utmost goal is to start an NGO on my own. This Initiative will surely give me hope that i am ,will be capable to run a NGO. Thanks and do the needful!
HUMANITY IS THE ONLY RELIGION I BELIEVE IN.
KARMA IS SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN.

We see ourselves only as the first step to doing this in Chennai(TAMILNADU), we are happy to even hand over the initiative to anyone who has the wherewithal and the experience and the scale to take it up and run it end to end, and keep ourselves in a volunteer role. This is just the initiation of the exercise. It will need unprecedented support for all of us to safely get through these tough times.
