In India, 71% of girls do not have the awareness of menstruation before their first period. Not only that, more than 40% of female students do not attend school during their menstrual cycles because they are unable to access menstrual products, alongside the social stigma they encounter at schools.
Girl Up OurStory second edition of the fundraiser, "Aashiyana," aims at tackling the grave issue of period poverty in India and raise awareness among underprivileged communities to destigmatize the issue,
All the funds raised through this initiative will be utilized in the donation of biodegradable sanitary napkins to underprivileged girls and women in Mumbai, Guwahati, and Delhi in public schools, slum/village communities and shelters.
