A large chuck of the Indian population believes this natural cycle to be a ‘curse’, ‘impure’ and ‘dirty’ among other things, courtesy of the  myths surrounding menstruation in our country.Menstruation and menstrual practices among one-half of the population are still clouded by taboos and socio-cultural restrictions resulting in adolescent girls remaining ignorant of the scientific facts and hygienic health practices, which sometimes result into adverse health outcomes.Sex education plays a critical role in developing an individual’s personality & helps them make better decisions adopting a rational frame of mind instead of relying on their impulse. Lack of sex education and healthy discussion around sexual activities is one of India’s main concerns that we are still failing to take adequate actions for. An advanced sex education program would bring about various positive changes and directly result in a decrease in the number of sexual assault cases.Contraceptive measures and protection helps avoid unwanted pregnancy & STDs. Yet, lakhs of people in the country stay away from them because of the taboo and lack of knowledge. The poor of India due to the sheer numbers will help from initiatives in this direction.
Periods and Pregnancies in poor areas of the country can be especially painful and difficult to bear. With a lack of medical facilities in the nearby areas, women may have to travel miles to seek medical attention and this is extremely risky. This initiatives hopes to educate and empower women to reach help on time during these stressful conditions.
