Menstruation remains one of the most stigmatized and misunderstood topics in India. Despite being a natural and essential process, millions of women and girls in rural and urban India continue to face barriers to menstrual health. These include lack of education, social taboos, limited access to menstrual hygiene products, and inadequate sanitation facilities. This not only affects their health but also their confidence, education, and overall well-being.In India, nearly 71% of women and girls still use unsafe alternatives like cloth, rags, and ashes during menstruation due to the high cost and lack of availability of sanitary products. Poor menstrual hygiene leads to infections, reproductive issues, and a higher risk of health complications. Worse still, girls often miss school during their menstrual cycles, leading to poor attendance and sometimes dropping out altogether.
Hamari Pahchan NGO is working to provide menstrual hygiene products and education to women and girls in Delhi. We are also working on a full-fledged project – ‘SUKHAD’ aims to provide every menstruator with access to safe and healthy periods.As a part of this project, we provide menstruators with menstrual kits (Sukhad kits), educate them regarding menstrual hygiene, and create awareness to dispel the taboo related to menstruation as well as teaching women and girls about menstrual health and hygiene.
