Help Tribals Of Raigad (Maharashtra) Displaced By Floods And Landslide

As we all are aware, several districts in Maharashtra have been facing incessant rainfall for the past few weeks. Raigad district has received extremely heavy rainfall  due to which, a hilltop on which Welatwadi Tribal Village (in Alibaug Tehsil, Raigad District, Maharashtra) is located, developed huge cracks, leading to landslide. Welatwadi village being located in a hilly terrain suffered maximum damage in these Floods and Landslides

This caused displacement of 22 families of 104 tribals belonging to the Katkari and Thakur tribes of Welatwadi village, Khanav Gram Panchayat, Alibag taluka (Raigad district). Their homes have been completely destroyed and they do not have necessary provisions like food, electricity etc.
They are presently being provided shelter in a government school but it cannot house them much longer. These families will not be able to go back to their village due to the crack in the mountain and the landslide till the waters subside and necessary repair work is completed.

On an immediate basis, temporary sheds need to be constructed for their shelter along with provision of food. Shri Sachin Shejal, Tehsildar of Alibag (Raigad District Administration, Maharashtra) has requested Confederation of Empowerment Initiatives (CEI) to help the government raise funds for relief and rehabilitation work of 104 tribals displaced due to the recent heavy rainfall. Below is the Official Letter to Confederation of Empowerment Initiatives (CEI) from Tehsildar, Revenue and Forest Department, Alibaug Office, Raigad District.

Dear all,

Thank you for your contribution. With the support we received from you through this platform of Milaap, we have been able to begin construction of temporary sheds for the 104 displaced people of Welatwadi village, Raigad district, Maharashtra.

This is just the beginning. Given the gravity of the situation, the rehabilitation of the 22 tribal families in an altogether new place is going to be a huge uphill task.

We urge to to support us in this endeavour so that we can facilitate the construction of new houses for these tribal families.

Please feel free to drop an email at ceiempowers@gmail.com for more information and to be a part of the Selfless Sadhana.

Looking forward to your continued support.
