TWEET's Garima Greh is a shelter home for provides a safe space to the young transgender community members facing rejection and violence from home and society. More than 70 people have been supported over a period of 2 year i and more than 85% found sustainable jobs in corporate after getting trained and skilled at the shelter home. (More details below). TWEET Foundation,we will continue to look for more institutional partners that help us run the project in long run, we are looking to raise urgent funds meanwhile to ensure that our residents, and staff members are not at risk for loss of shelter and employment due to non-release of funding from the government agencies.
THIS IS AN URGENT CALL TO SUPPORT THE SHELTER HOME THROUGH CROWDFUNDING
Over the last 2 years, we have provided end-to-end support to the community members, including mental and physical health support. Along with enrolling them into distance education programs to continue their education as well as enrolling them into skilling programs that helped them get ready for placements into corporates.
The residents who had been rejected by their families, faced abuse and violence, got time and support to find their foothold, they got themselves together and worked hard to get into companies like Tata Steel, Publicis Sapient, Sodexo etc
Currently there are 15 trans persons who are staying at Garima Greh Mumbai, whose expenses TWEET Foundation has been able to take care of through our funders and supporters, however due to delay in release of funding from the govt department we are running low on funds and to manage day to day activities.
Below are the rough estimate of funds required to sustain the place and to continue to support more than 40-50 new residents during the course of a year.
