The COVID crisis has acutely affected the trans community in and around Kolkata. Daily wage trans laborers, sex workers, and folks from the Hijra community have lost their sources of income. Many are stuck at home with their blood families and are facing physical and emotional abuse. The second wave has acutely affected the trans community and many have tested positive. There is a general lack of access to healthcare for trans folks and this covid crisis has made the situation a lot bleaker.

Many are struggling and lack access to basic rations and PPE kits. There is also a severe lack of proper healthcare for trans folks, many of whom are severely immunocompromised.

With the funds raised from this, we would be able to provide basic food and rations, PPE kits to 700 trans folks in and around Kolkata for a period of three months. We also wish to cover healthcare for those from the community who are COVID positive.

Break up of the estimate is as follows:

1500 rupee essential packs (Includes, food and PPE Kits) to 700 beneficiaries for 2 months
4 lakh rupees for emergency COVID-19 treatment and services for trans persons in crisis.
