From Struggle to Success: Saroj Kumar’s Journey
My name is Saroj Kumar, and I come from Baijnathpur Sourbazar, Saharsa, Bihar. Growing up, I had little direction and even less hope for the future. My father, Umesh Yadav, was the sole breadwinner, earning just three thousand rupees a month. Our family lived in a small, dilapidated house with only two rooms, and our financial situation was dire.
As a student, I felt lost and uncertain about my future. Everything changed when I heard about an initiative by Gram Sabha Seva Niketan (GSSN) while wandering through my village. They were launching computer training centers, offering comprehensive education in digital skills. Seeing this as a chance to alter my path, I enrolled in the program.
The 52-day computer training was a revelation. I learned a great deal, but it was only after the program that I discovered a practical application of my new skills. When a friend requested photo editing, I knew I could help but didn’t have the necessary equipment. My friend suggested using my mobile phone for the task, so I started editing photos using my phone.
Soon, I began receiving orders for photo editing, and I earned 3,000 rupees from these jobs. With this money, I approached my father to ask for a laptop. Although we didn’t have much money, my father agreed to support me. He sold an ox, and combined with my savings and the funds from my work, we managed to buy a laptop and rent a camera.
With these tools, I started a small photography business. Initially, I took on orders for weddings and functions, and over time, my business began to grow. Today, I earn between 9,000 to 10,000 rupees a month. My financial condition has significantly improved, and I am now self-sufficient.
My success story is a testament to the power of seizing opportunities and the impact of the support from GSSN. I am grateful for the chance to change my life and am now focused on expanding my business further.
