As you are aware, the COVID-19 pandemic’s second wave has hit India very hard. One of the communities severely effected is the autorickshaw drivers, as they depend on daily income and have no option to ‘work from home’. Bengaluru (like several other cities in India) is under lockdown, meaning zero income for these drivers.
For reference, an average auto driver earns about ₹25,000 ($340 or £243) during a good month, and takes home about ₹10,000 ($135 or £98) after expenses like house rent, vehicle loans, insurance, fuel & repairs etc. Even these meager earnings have taken a severe hit in recent times.
We at Ohm Mobility, in collaboration with our partners, are driving an initiative to support the auto rickshaw drivers of Bengaluru by distributing ration/grocery kits. This will help provide food for their family during this difficult period.
We have partnered with Milaap, a reputed crowdsourcing platform to collect contributions.
What does a kit contain?
Each driver gets 1 grocery kit with essential items, ideally enough for 15 days of food for a family of 4. This includes Rice, Atta (flour), Oil, Sugar, Salt, Dal (lentils), Tea and few other items
Cost per kit - ₹1000 ($14 or £9.7)
We are looking to support 1000 auto drivers & their families, for which the funds required will be ₹10,00,000 ($13,530 or £9,750)
Actual number of kits we can distribute will depend on the money we raise.
Please come forward to support our cause. ANY contribution will be of immense help. Do contribute and share this campaign link with your friends and family.
