We, Porosha Sonowal and Tanya Brooks have organised a fundraising campaign to help the flood-affected villagers of Tatipathar in the Sivasagar district of Assam. In our humble attempt, we have partnered with "Bondhu" to distribute relief. Bondhu was formed in May 2020 with a team of 6 volunteers to provide free delivery of essentials during the lockdown in and around Sibsagar.
In their first month, they made more than 600 deliveries. Currently, they are engaged in relief work in the flood-affected areas of the district. So far, they have distributed relief materials in Dihingia Gaon of Sivasagar on behalf of an NGO. In our endeavour, we aim to reach the remote and more severely affected areas. Hence, after consultations with the ground workers, we have chosen to distribute relief materials in Tatipathar in Panbecha Mouza in Sibsagar. The village of Tatipathar has been reeling under flood for last two weeks after floodwaters from Dikhow and Brahmaputra rivers inundated the village and its surrounding areas. There are about forty families in the village who have been severely hit by floods. We intend to reach out to 40 affected families by providing them with kits which will include sanitary pads and dry ration such as rice, dal, soybeans, cooking oil etc.
