*I am Deene khan s/o shree Ramjan khan manganiar folk artist resident of chelak village in Jaisalmer district. Looking at the coronavirus for the past several days, the condition of our Manganiyar caste and our Manganiyar artists is very sad because all our artists are dependent on their program to play songs. And we depend on our prudent practice, due to Corona virus, all our programs have been canceled. People are down inside our homes, we are not able to go even in our Jajmani system and that is why we appeal to all the donors that please help us all, that is it, we all sit at home and watch videos of our Rajasthani folk art. He will continue to entertain all of you, you are requested to all of you fight with the coronavirus that is inside the houses, he will take all measures to avoid this disease. About the artists and the actual situation From Jaisalmer, the desert's gate, to Udaipur, an ever numerous constellation of artists casts (jati) such as the Manghaniyar and the Langa, the Dho!i, the Charan, the Jogi, the Bhat, the Kamad, the Kamjar, and the Bhopa and many others ones, carry with them the memory of a past, the history of art of music, dance and poetry. Living around the outskirts of villages, they are all depending financially on local performances, weddings, festivals, ritual events and also mostly from their « Jajman », their patron castes which support them financially . Many of them live in remote villages in the desert land of Barmer and Jaisalmer. The COVID-19 lockdown left villagers with no time to gather supplies (either food rations or materials for sanitation). The lockdown conditions have thrown up unforeseen logistical challenges involving movement of people and vehicles, as well as access to supplies as the markets are closed, especially in the desert. So some of them being in a dangerous situation need badly some help. There are aroud 50000 families in villages, a total of 66000people, who have nothing to eat and no money to move. Funds will be used to provide a monthly package of INR 4000/- to 4800 family units in the Langa And Magniyar villages Jaisalmer And Barmer , to just about last out for the months of April and May 2020. All funds will go directly to deene khan and The Roots music folk music band , folk musician himself. A 10 person team will be able to procure and distribute relief material, while educating villagers on social distancing and sanitation. Our only chance before the COVID-19 outbreak spreads is to collect food supplies immediately. There is little or no state transport functional currently through the village, villagers are using camels and horses for mid and long range travel. There is only one water source, a well used by both villages. During earlier natural disasters like the drought and the floods, folk artists were able to survive because of the help of neighbouring communities. This time, restrictions on travel and the complete shut down of the market is making survival difficult without support. Thankyou.... Band Name Deene khan & The Roots music
