Leprosy is caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium leprae and it continues to be a major public health problem in India, accounting for more than 60 % of global cases. In 2022 alone, the country recorded in excess of 120,000 new cases. The condition mainly occurs in marginalized communities with poor access to decent healthcare services, resulting in severe consequences such as neuritis and leprosy reactions which ultimately can lead to permanent disabilities if not treated immediately. Social stigma often leads to a delayed presentation of symptoms and medical management, consequently worsening the situation. The Leprosy Mission Trust India (TLMTI) is on the frontlines providing critical medical care, healing and upliftment services for those on streets. 
In light of this, Leprosy Empowerment and Awareness Drive (LEAD) has organized an online fundraiser, “Community Care for Change” with the target of INR 2 lakhs, to bolster and support projects run by TLMTI, and help them in improving access to quality healthcare for those affected by leprosy and conditions such as neuritis and related reactions.
