Ebenezer Community School (ECS) emerged out of a popular weekly initiative that began in 2000 and was initially run by a local group dedicated to investing in the children of Chandanhola. They have labored for many years to give quality education to this community, now teaching 190 children who all reside within a 5-kilometer radius of the school. This school serves the daily wage earners in that community. Families that opt to teach their children at Ebenezer pay a monthly fee of Rs 500 per student, which they manage from their monthly household income, which ranges between Rs 6,000 and Rs 10,000. Despite parents paying fees, the school has struggled with finances, owing mostly to a lack of other funding sources. Lack of funds could paralyse this endeavour, depriving these precious children of the opportunity to acquire an education. An opportunity for this specific segment of our society to succeed.
If these students drop out of school, they risk falling into a cycle of no education followed by potential child labor, losing not only their youth but also any chance they had of one day supporting themselves off the streets.
Help us give them a future and a hope of living a life of dignity.
