As per research studies conducted by eminent institutions such as National Centre of Biotechnology Information & Unicef, poverty, physical congestion and lack of resources can affect the child’s development by stunting cognitive growth and causing psychological stress, which may continue to affect the child even in the later years of life.
Hence, creating safe spaces for children, which not only enable them to study but also involve in mainstream social discourse, is the need of the hour.
With this aim at our core, we launched Svadhyaya Youth Library at Manpur Block of Gaya District in Bihar. Since the launch of our library, we’ve provided quality self- study space along with a variety of resources like free wifi, drinking water, tuition support, study materials etc, to more than 150 students at a very minimal cost. Along with this, we also conduct regular youth community discussion sessions, mentorship programs, career counselling etc to enable holistic growth of our children.
However, due to limited funds, we can only help a few children at a time.
Initially with help of our sponsors, we managed to create the required infrastructure like comfortable chairs, separate study tables, electric equipments, wall painting etc, which costed us approximately Rs 3,50,000/- . However, due to high level of operational costs involved in running our library with all desired amenities, and making such facilities available to students from underprivileged backgrounds for free, it is becoming difficult for us to sustain our operations.
Break-up of our Monthly Budget to run the library is:
1. Rent - Rs 12,000/-
2. Wifi- Rs 1200/-
3. Electricity- Rs 2000/- (approx.)
4. Operational Staff- Rs 8000/-
5. Kindle Subscription - Rs 169 * 5 = Rs 845/-
6. Tuition Cost - Rs 3000/-
7. Study Material Cost - Rs 2000/- (approx.)
Total: Rs 29,045/-
If we receive the required funding we would be able to increase our impact many folds, helping hundreds of children gain access to safe spaces for study.
Donate today and help our future stars spread their wings through education.
