Millions of students in India have their fate decided before their birth. These are the same students who are fondly considered as India’s bright future but whose stories have bleak endings marked with marginalization. I aspire to be an exception. My name is Suyash Tiwari. I am studying in 11th Grade and belong to a small village in India. I dream to study technology and find solutions to the problems in my community. 

I have recently lost my mother to cancer. This has not only left me and my father undergo a huge emotional turmoil but also under a colossal financial debt. My mother’s death took away my father’s happiness and I wish to work day and night to bring it back. The only reason for his existence is to fulfil my mother's aspirations towards me. All our savings have been spent on helping my mother survive, leaving us with nothing to help me achieve my academic success. 

Despite the financial and emotional difficulties at home, I have worked relentlessly to make my parents proud. I achieved the 2nd Rank in my entire district in the International Mathematics Olympiad and scored 94% in my CBSE Board examinations. I have received National Awards in Table playing from the Sangeet Kala Kendra. I was also awarded by the District collector of Korba for my proficiency in co-scholastic as well as academic works.

This year, I am selected for the Yale Summer Session 2019, organized by Yale University. This program provides academically rigorous and innovative undergraduate courses to Yale and visiting students across various platforms around the world. Students come to Yale Summer Session to take Yale College courses in New Haven. I would be attending the Intensive English Programme, a certificate course which helps the students to improve their academic English language skills among a dynamic, diverse group of students. The duration of the programme is from 1st July to 2nd August. Students from over 20+ countries apply for this programme. I am one of the people shortlisted from an outstanding pool of applicants that include - students, professionals and etc. from all over the world.

After my 1:1 interview with one of the alumni of this programme, I know this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me. Attending and being a part of this program will be truly transformational for my life opening new opportunities, avenues, thinking, at a different level altogether. Throughout my student life, I've been true to my mission of helping everyone around me with their ideas, personal development, encouraging them and helping my country develop. This is my moonshot.

Since my life’s philosophy is to either create value or enable value creation for my society and country, this workshop will help me reach a step closer to my dreams. The only barrier between me and my dreams is the fees of $8,215  or ₹5,68,901. Every penny will help me in realising my dreams, making my family, society and community proud.
