Socialist Party (India) is actively working towards providing relief to low-income communities in Lucknow during the COVID 19 pandemic. The main focus of the relief work is providing food security to the most marginalized sections of the society i.e the daily wage workers, street vendors, stone cutters, homeless on streets, etc.
The relief efforts in Lucknow are led by Salman Raini, General Secretary of 'Young Farmers Traders Fruits and Vegetables Business Association,' Dubagga, Lucknow and also the Lucknow District President of Socialist Party (India). His team has been selling vegetables at subsidized rates in low-income communities and distributing it for free to families that can't afford to pay even the subsidized amounts.
Community Kitchens for the poor
The team has started 4 community kitchens in Lucknow - two in Dubbaga, one each in Madison and Gosainganj. The cost of running these kitchens is around Rs. 3000 per day per kitchen. We are looking to raise funds to be able to run the community kitchens for the month of April. This kitchen is operated directly by the community in need of* the support from the Socialist Party volunteers.
Every rupee raised through this campaign will be spent only on providing food and other essentials to those in need. We believe in complete transparency of expenses and therefore will be regularly sharing data of our funds raised, detailed expenses and community members benefited from the campaign.
We have raised over Rs. 2.5 lakh and have provided free food and ration to over 9000 people in low-income communities. We are looking to further raise Rs. 5 lakh to be able to reach out to provide over 20000 meals in these areas.
