I am Nikunj, a transman from Madhya Pradesh, India. I am the director of the TAPISH foundation (Trans Persons Association for Promoting, Inclusion, Safety and Harmony).
We are a registered organization under Section 8 of the 201 Companies Act with tax redemption certificates of 12A and 80G. We started working for the community in 2020.
We are a young, youth-led organization passionate to create a safe space for young transgender persons and support them in addressing challenges like violence, legal documentation and livelihood. Our work comprises sensitization programs and advocacy for the rights of transgender persons and we also offer peer counselling support for transgender persons to provide emotional support, information regarding gender affirmative procedures, legal name and gender change.
As a new organization, we don’t have basic infrastructures like office space and basic devices. We need laptops or computers and Wi-Fi which will help us to document our work and apply for potential funders.
A transgender person faces a lot of discrimination and violence on regular basis. In order to handle such cases, we lack resources such as mobile phones which is one of our crucial work.
Madhya Pradesh doesn’t have any shelter homes for trans people.
People come from different regions of Indore and nearby from their villages to escape from their abusive families, find livelihood opportunities and have gender-affirmative surgeries. All of them have a common need which is trans-affirmative space to stay. Currently, they are facing difficulties in finding affordable and safe spaces. Which si why we are here seeking for help, assistance and your support. Help us build an equitable system.
Some of the major essential requirements we are seeking are
Our organization started working in Madhya Pradesh to create a safer space for transpersons in the region. We actively created awareness programmes, sensitization and advocacy programmes with government officials. Some of those officials were the Social Justice Department of Madhya Pradesh, District Magistrates, and Collectors of different districts. The work we conducted were under National Legal Services Authority vs Union of India Judgment 2014, and the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019. Or work has helped us achieve the 6th position in applying for maximum Transgender Identity cards where we have successfully applied for more than 150 cards.

- Legal Help in terms of lawyers, advocates, and judges to support our work, especially ones who take the pro-bono case
- Engagement with the police station of the area
- WIFI connection that includes, a modem and the money for the connection
- Any unused furniture
- CCTV for Security
