Cyclone Michaung has adversely affected many of our support staff such as, from housekeeping, security, laundry and gardening teams at the University. While thankfully no one was injured, but there were significant damages to their homes, including but not limited to flooding inside their houses, extensive seepage in the walls, collapse of roof sheds. Many houses specifically, the ones that are not made of concrete, need immediate rebuilding.
The support staff hail mostly from the nearby villages of Edur and Chengambakkam. In an effort to assess the damage and to understand the urgent needs of our staff and their families, we conducted a visit to these villages. We realized that with the help of a fundraiser and support of the Krea community, we can help them rebuild their homes.
We intend to raise INR 1,30,000 which will be distributed among 35 beneficiaries according to the extent of damage and loss incurred. This fund will primarily go towards the cost of rebuilding their houses and providing essential relief material such as bleaching powder for cleaning purposes, as requested by village residents of Chengembakkam.
Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful impact on the lives of those affected. Your contribution will not only provide much-needed relief but also demonstrate the strength of our collective support during challenging times.
Once the fundraiser is completed, and the funds have been transferred to each beneficiary, we will follow up with an update of the utilization of the funds. Please feel free to ask for more information from any of the undersigned.
Sincerely,
Amanjit Kaur Ahuja and Sayori Ghoshal
