Story

Purpose of the campaign: With its background of working with communities across North East India, Sunbird Trust (www.sunbirdtrust.com, registered office at Bangalore), is raising funds to distribute essential food items to North-East people at Bengaluru badly affected by the COVID-19 lockdown. Being migrants, most do not have ration cards and therefore access to the Public Distribution System.

Whose life will you be impacting?: The beneficiaries of this campaign are migrant workers, students and people working small enterprises from North East India living in Bengaluru and its suburbs. These are those who do not have access to funds and therefore to food.

How will we go about it?: After ground surveys to identify the worst affected migrant NE folks, Sunbird Trust will procure essential items like rice, dal, oil, and condiments and pack these into convenient individual and family cartons. These packs will then be distributed to neediest through our team members, volunteers, and partner organizations. Our tried and tested logistics network will ensure efficient and timely delivery. (Since the start of the crisis, Sunbird Trust has already distributed over 10 tons of food aid to over 1,300 affected people at Bengaluru).

Who are we?: Sunbird Trust is a non-religious and non-denominational not for profit organization registered at Bengaluru. Its team of 18 young professionals work with the motto of Peace through Education in conflict-affected areas of North East India. It currently supports the education of over 3,300 NE children and is helping build schools and hostels in remote parts of Manipur and Assam.
