My name is Utsav, and I’m reaching out today not just to ask for help but as a son who is scared of losing his father.
My father, Subodh Kumar Keshri, is 62 years old. Ten years ago, our lives were shaken when he had to undergo a kidney transplant. He never touched alcohol or smoked, yet both his kidneys failed at the same time. I was in my teens and the eldest of nine kids in a very middle class joint family setup in Arrah, a small town in Bihar.
My mother gave him the most precious gift possible, her kidney. Since then, our lives have revolved around hospital visits, medicines, strict routines, and constant prayers. Through this trials and tribulations, we have exhausted our resources. Our extended family stood by us like a rock and continue to do so.
Just when we thought the hardest days were behind us, this January brought devastating news. He was diagnosed with a brain abscess. A severe, life-threatening infection that progressed very quickly. Watching him go from being hopeful and stable to fighting for his life in the ICU has been the most heartbreaking experience of our lives.
He is currently admitted at Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences, where he has been in intensive care for over a month. Every single day feels uncertain. Every phone call from the hospital makes our hearts stop. We are holding onto hope, praying that he opens his eyes, holds our hands again, and comes back home.
Over the course of the last decade, we have spent nearly ₹40,00,000 on ICU charges, procedures, medicines, and emergency treatment. We arranged this amount through our savings and by taking loans. Today, we have nothing left. And the financial demands of medical needs are beyond the capabilities of our extended family. Hence the acute and urgent need for this fundraiser.
In the coming days, we urgently need about ₹25,00,000 more for continued ICU care, brain surgery, medications, and his recovery. The amount is overwhelming for us. It is far beyond what we can manage alone. My father has always been the first person to help others. Today, he is the one who needs support.
