My name is Subham Tibra, a 28-year-old from Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, and an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur (Class of 2019, Mathematics & Computing).
For most of my life, I have lived with overwhelming fear, anxiety, and emotional distress. During my second year of college, my mental health began to deteriorate severely. What started as intense anxiety soon developed into persistent suicidal thoughts, severe depression, and trauma-related symptoms. Over time, I was diagnosed with Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD), severe anxiety, and Complex PTSD (cPTSD).
For the past 10 years, I have pursued every major treatment available. I have undergone multiple medication trials, psychotherapy, rTMS, and Ketamine therapy, yet my condition has continued to worsen. The illness forced me to take repeated sabbaticals, decline a placement opportunity from Mercari, and eventually left me unable to maintain employment.
Three years ago, my situation became even more difficult when a major medical incident resulted in a locomotor disability. Today, I am largely bedbound and often require a wheelchair or assistance to move. The physical disability has significantly intensified my mental health struggles, leaving me isolated and fighting a daily battle simply to keep going.
After exhausting all available treatment options, my doctors have recommended Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) surgery, an FDA-approved treatment for severe treatment-resistant depression. For me, this procedure represents a genuine and medically recommended last hope for recovery and a chance to reclaim my life.
Unfortunately, the total cost of the surgery and associated medical expenses is approximately ₹15,00,000, an amount beyond my financial means.
The money I made through my short lived jobs got spent in disability treatment (although unsuccessful). Also, this treatment is not covered under insurance in India.
I am reaching out with humility and hope. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings me one step closer to accessing this treatment. If you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser with others would mean just as much.
Your support could give me something I have been fighting for over a decade: a real chance to heal, rebuild my life, and look toward the future with hope.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and belief in second chances.
