Reading is learning, and learning is growing. But unfortunately, knowledge is not free and there is a price to be paid for literature. This means that while the more privileged of us can enjoy all sorts of ideas and discourse from different authors, kids who come from the more marginalised backgrounds of society miss out on this most fascinating world of books. This is unacceptable, because our nation deserves a society where every child reads, as only then can we progress together and in step with each other.
This is why I started Project YARN—the Young Adult Reading Network—curated with the ambition to introduce children to a wide variety of books, especially literature, authored by women and talking about women, as well as gender, and their experiences in general. In the pursuit of this, YARN has so far developed the YARN Curriculum, which is a handbook with seven illustrated modules aimed to help children read and learn better by developing a robust reading habit and understanding various literary devices.
Now, we wish to broaden our outreach and help even more kids in even more ways, and this is why we reached out to the Nai Disha Educational and Cultural Society, an upstanding NGO in the heart of Delhi, working diligently to get education, art, sports, and most of all hope, to the lives of as many children as possible. Going forward, we would like to make a sizeable donation to Nai Disha so that they can carry on forward in their noble mission with increased gusto and power, and for that YARN needs your support. All the funds accrued through this fundraiser will be donated directly to Nai Disha, and I believe that this gesture will truly provide a new direction to the lives of these students, and I hope that you will help us achieve that!
