Every morning, before the sun rises, dozens of parents in rural Tamil Nadu prepare their children for school. These are not ordinary school days. Their children live with autism, intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and multiple disabilities. Many cannot speak. Some cannot walk without support. Others need therapy every single day just to perform simple tasks like eating, holding a pencil, or calling their mother.
Yet, despite all these challenges, they smile when the school van arrives.
For many of these families, Ritham Charitable Trust is more than a school—it is hope, healing, and a second home.
For over 22 years, we have been serving children with disabilities from poor rural families around Rajapalayam, Tamil Nadu. Most of their parents are daily wage labourers, farmers, or single mothers. They dream of giving their children a better future, but they simply cannot afford special education, therapy, transport, or nutritious meals.
At Ritham, we never want to turn a child away because of poverty.
Every day, 90 children receive special education, physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, nutritious meals, transport, learning materials, and life-skills training. These services help children become more independent, confident, and prepared for life.
Today, we face a difficult challenge.
The cost of providing these essential services continues to rise, while donations have become uncertain. Without urgent financial support, it will become increasingly difficult to continue providing uninterrupted care for these children.
