Unlocking hunger for 21 street dogs

With the privilege and luck of having a home and Leo, our doggie son, we knew the lockdown wouldn't impact us. We thought we would spend time together and learn more about each other than we ever have and life would be beautiful.

I am broken...
While I stepped out to get my essentials during the lockdown, I could spot 3 street dogs who were dying out of thirst and hunger.

What started as an attempt to feed these 3 streeties, has now reached close to 21 in just 9 days. I know there are many more and I wish we had the capacity to feed them all.

We feed them chicken, rice, vegetables, and pulses, As they don't have access to clean water we are trying to get old/disposable plastic containers to provide them with water.

Although the lockdown might end on April 14, we are sure that the struggle for these streeties will continue till the end of August 2020 while normalcy restores.

These resources cost around Rs. 419 per day which breaks down to Rs. 20 per day per streetie. The break up is provided below:

ItemQty (gms) / dayPrice (Rs.) / dayApril to August
Rice long body1500548100
Pulses (mixed)6509814625
Chicken50018828125
Vegetables
507500
Gas
304500
Total per day41962850
Per Dog / day106201197

Reaching out to you you all to support us in this initiative. This gesture will not only help all the streeties but also will restore the faith in humanity for them and all of us.

In case the amount surpasses our needs, then we will transfer the balance amount to organizations working for street dogs and rescues like VOSD, CARE, ALAI, KRUPA, and PFA.

Either way, please help feed a stray close to your home and keep some water for them each day. This is the only lease of life they need right now and we can provide it to them.

Regards,
The pack of 21, Lucy, Leo, and Sonam
Ask for an update
3rd September 2020
Dear partons,

We hope you are all doing well. It's been a really long time since we had updated on Milaap. We realized that we were updating mostly through WhatsApp.

I apologize for that. It is easier to update using WhatsApp and Milaap has another step - and hence the delay. The last update on WhatsApp and Milaap was on the 13th of July.

All the lovely streeties are doing well. Since July 13, we could feed just for 23 days. Life is back to normalcy for streeties and we are happy about it. We still have funds left from your generous contribution, at this point we will be withdrawing for 23 days.

We had rescued Soorma off the road and she is safe at Charlies Animal Rescue Centre. Thanks to Sudha for accomodating her even during these times.

As promised during the beginning of our campaign, the balance would be given to some NGOs working towards animal care. We had given Rs. 10,000/- to CARE while Soorma was sheltered there. We will retain Rs.10,000/- in the fundraiser to ensure that in an event another lockdown is in place, we will be able to feed the streeties without hassles.

As shared with you at the beginning of the campaign, we will be transferring the balance Rs.25,000/- to organizations like VOSD, CARE, ALAI, KRUPA, and PFA. We will share the receipts post-transfer.

Regards and best wishes,
Pack of 21, Lucy, Leo, Sonam, and Ashu

Hello everyone!

As the lockdown begins in Bangalore, we will be starting to feed as many streeties as we can starting the day after tomorrow.

Hence, we are withdrawing Rs.40,000/- so that we can stock up meat as well. We are certain that the lockdown will be extended. This amounts to June and July amounting to Rs. 25140 +

Also, from today's post, you would have seen that we had rescued a cat from the flyover. The expenses for her medical expenses, and rescue expenses of Rs. 4000/- will also be taken into consideration.
+
Also, we had ordered the reflective collars amounting to Rs. 1450/- for the streeties.
+
Rs.9,410/- buffer that we are keeping with us just in case we would need it for an emergency.

Besides the bill for these, I am unable to attach the rice and dal bills for the feeding. The feeding per day amounts to Rs. 419/-.

Unlocking hunger for 21 stray dogs...

20/Jun/2020

Our lovely patrons... We hope you are doing well. Regret the delay in communicating with you. The last fortnight has been extremely busy for us (Even we can't figure what we were busy with!)

Firstly and most importantly, a BIG SHOUTOUT to Hotel Fishland and Abhishek Desai. They came to know about our little project and sent over Chicken stock for 2 weeks for our streets. For the last 2 weeks, our streeties are having a ball of a time. They get double the chicken quota - as you might guess, these two weeks have been extraordinarily torturous for Leo - too much chicken and nothing to eat. :D

Hotel Fishland is Bangalore's oldest Seafood hotel. They are located in Gandhi Nagar, Bangalore. You MUST visit this place to experience the old-style Konkani Thali. I will be there between 1230-130. Please join and the lunch will be on me.

The Desai's have always pitched in whenever Bangalore needed help and they did the same this time too. It is our time to help them help their staff. They are open for business and deliveries through Swiggy. They deep clean their premises every day! We would request you to support this local business which has been central to Bangalore's culinary landscape, since 1982!

Our streeties: After the PBSD, Picasso is doing well now. He is certain that he may be picked up for a bath and dropped back. Although most places have opened up, our streeties are still hungry for food.

The puppy is now grown up. Thank you for enabling us to take care of the mother and the puppy. The last three months have been traumatic for the mother - having lost two in an accident and three taken away. Due to your support, we could feed them really well and they are both doing great now.

We have not heard from each of you for a long time. Please drop a message so that we know that you are doing well. Please take care of yourselves and do remember that these lovely animals out there need our help.

Love and regards,
Pack of 21, Lucy, Leo, Sonam, and Ashutosh.
