Project Best Tellers is based on the belief that storytelling is a powerful form of self-expression for children with numerous psychological benefits such as enabling them to speak their truth, explore their thoughts and emotions constructively, and learn how to communicate them effectively. It can help children gain confidence, establish healthy coping mechanisms, and discover a way to express their feelings amidst the challenges of life.

With this idea at its core, Best Tellers was established in June 2022 with the goal of providing children from underprivileged communities with the necessary skills and knowledge to engage in storytelling. The project focuses on assisting children in exploring the foundations and fundamentals of narrative building, creative writing, and self-expression through the creation of accessible, simple, and engaging educational resource materials, as well as interactive workshops and sessions to assist children in exploring the writer within.

Till date, Project Best Tellers has successfully developed a 5-module curriculum designed to educate students on the foundational components of storytelling, and conducted a series of workshops on the same in May 2023. In addition to this, we have also published a reading list curated by age appropriateness to encourage young children to inculcate the habit of robust reading. To promote a deeper engagement with the skill of storytelling, we also conducted a storytelling competition where students submitted and presented self-authored stories. Finally, to widen the reach of the Best Tellers program, we also collaborated with NGOs across Delhi and Mumbai to equip them with the necessary resources and materials to self-implement the program with children from their organizations.

Best Tellers now seeks to raise funds to collate stories authored by the children associated with Hamari Pahchan, and Sukhad Foundation, and self-publish an anthology story book. Additionally, proceeds from this fundraiser will also be used to support ongoing initiatives of educating and empowering young children from underserved communities by NGOs Hamari Pahchan, and Sukhad Foundation.
