The school first opened its doors to 35 little students six years ago, most of whom live in bastis and were born to parents who work in the domestic sphere—as security guards, vegetable vendors, etc. Now, Nayi Disha supports not only more than 100 children, but has also broadened its focus by supporting their families. The COVID-19 global pandemic has been extremely distressing for everyone, and these families from marginalized communities have been struck the worst as they fight to keep themselves safe and healthy while struggling to earn their daily wages.
We at Nayi Disha want to support these families by providing them much needed rations over the next two months. We are aiming to assist 50 families with kits consisting of basic necessities such as rice, pulses, and soaps. One kit costs just Rs. 800 to 1,000—this affordable amount can make a significant difference to one entire household.
Remember, change is like rain—it begins with a single drop.
