Our baby, Siri Chandana is born with a hearing deficit. We found this out when she would not respond to our commands. At the age of 2, we took her to the doctor in our village and eventually got her tested in CMC, Vellore and Madras ENT institute where they suggested that she needs an Auditory Brain Stem Implantation.

Our world has been devastated. We are a lower-middle-class family based out of Jeypore, Odisha. Siri is the youngest in the family and we love her to bits. We have spent all our savings and have availed a loan with all our gold jewellery on a mortgage to get her treatment going this far. Before consulting CMC, Vellore, we solicited advice from doctors at Visakhapatnam. And she has been undergoing speech therapy until recently.

She is only 2 but we are shattered with all the comments people make. Some are already starting to label Siri, "a burden" in our lives. We struggle to even earn our livelihood and here we are being put to another test.

This being a rare form of congenital ENT disorder - "Bilateral Cochlear Aplasia", the doctors have suggested for surgical intervention. Although the possibility of her recovering to a normal state cannot be estimated, we do not want to leave any stone unturned in gifting our child the normal life she deserves. For someone from a lower-middle-class family, the estimated cost of 35,000$ (USD) or Rs.25,00,000/- (25lakhs) is impossible to bear.

As a last resort, we have come to believe the power of people. Your little contribution will prevent our child to be disabled for the rest of her life. No words can express any little contribution that can transform our happiness and Siri’s life. Moreover, please put us in touch if you know of any foundations that could assist us in any way.

Thank you for all your support.

- Swathi (Mother)
