I am launching this fundraiser on behalf of my school friend Suvra Chakraborty. The intended beneficiary is Suvra's father, Dr. Shyamal Kumar Chakraborty, 67, who has been fighting COVID induced complications for the past few days.

After testing positive for COVID on 7th September, he was admitted in MR Bangur Hospital and then on 13th September, with further complications was moved to AMRI, Mukundapur before being brought to Medica Superspecialty, Mukundapur on 20th September.

He has currently been admitted to Medica Superspecialty Hospital located at Mukundapur, Kolkata. He is presently on ECMO support. As per the doctor's estimate, ECMO support will be required for the next 2 to 3 weeks. The next course of action will depend on how he responds to the treatment. 

The daily expenses of the hospital, given that he is on ECMO support, will easily cross Rs. 1 lakh, which is a quite big amount for a middle class family to shell out. Also, it's not guaranteed that he will be weaned off ECMO support after 3 weeks. Till now, his family has spent Rs 11 lakhs for his treatment and all the medical covers have been exhausted.
