We are reaching out requesting your contributions to help Shwetha fight COVID related complications. Shwetha is 39 years old with no other health issues till COVID completely impacted her lungs, and currently planning for Lung transplantation Shwetha lives with her Husband, K.Sai Arun (a Telangana state government employee) and has a daughter (12 years) and a Son (8 years). Shwetha has been fighting with the COVID lung complication for 60 plus days now and we are trying to support her fight for life in possible ways.
Shwetha tested positive for Covid on April 29th 2021, though she started medication from the first day, her health condition deteriorated, and needed Oxygen. She was admitted to Holistic Hospital at Kukatpally, Hyderabad on May 5th 2021 for immediate treatment. She received a course of Remedesivir and Bevacizunab but her oxygen levels continued to drop and condition continued to deteriorate. On May 12th 2021 she was moved to Yashoda Hospital Secunderabad for ICU support, where her lung condition and oxygen levels continued to deteriorate. On June 5th she under went Cardiac arrest and was resuscitated and was put on ventilator immediately. Later on June 11th, the doctors administered tracheostomy and was kept on ventilator support.
She spent 6 weeks at Yashoda hospital ICU and, with will power, has overcome some major complications (lung spasms, cardiac arrest, low blood pressure, multiple infections, low oxygen levels) over this period. She was communicating with family and friends through signs and lip movement, and expressed that she will fight till she is able to walk and come home. She is very determined.
Her all other organs continue to be fully functional and she has a very good chance of making it through provided she receives immediate care for hers lungs. Doctors at KIMS Secunderabad, who are world renewed Lung and Heart transplantation team suggested she be moved on ECMO support (which is a machine providing external lung support) and further to plan for double lung transplantation. She has been shifted to KIMS hospital on June 21st, 2021 on ECMO support. All this ECMO and the lung transplantation treatment procedures are very expensive, and needs money, physical and mental support for the family.
The family has already spent ~45 lakhs from their own savings and through support from extended family for her 55 (and plus) days of hospital/ICU support. All the advanced and extensive line of treatment including the cost of ECMO admission fees at KIMS daily hospitalization cost of ICU + ECMO setup, Lung transplantation, etc. continues to push up the medical expenses, which is resulting in severe short fall of funding.
Following are the additional expenses that will be incurred for ECMO support and the lung transplantation,
- ECMO initiation Charges - 10 Lakhs
- ECMO Daily costs – 2 Lakhs per day for approximately 30 days = ~60 Lakhs (6 million INR)
- Lung Transplant (Organ logistics, work up and transplant) – ~65 L (6.5 million INR, to be updated once we have the final quote)
- Post Lung transplant ICU charges - 1 Lakh per day for 30days = ~30 Lakhs
The family is requesting you to kindly come forward and help Shwetha in her battle against the disease and her life. 8 & 12 -year-old children and the family are grateful for your help and wishes.
You can contribute by donating money (even a small amount will make a big difference) and by spreading the message through your network. Also appreciate your prayers for Shwetha.
