It may seem obvious; all schools are supposed to have books but did you know?As per a survey conducted by our team in over 85 government schools across Rajasthan and Maharashtra 51% of the surveyed schools do not have librariesOnly 30% schools are conducting more than 3 reading sessions in a week. Unfortunately, this is the case in most government schools. Which is why, it is not surprising that every 1 out of 2 children in India is struggling to read at grade level. The condition has only worsened due to the pandemic, as for two years kids stayed away from the classroom.
Share A Book India started as a campaign to make sure that reading books in school for pleasure isn't considered a luxury but a necessity! We have grown as an organisation with a simple motto in mind to enable each child to read, imagine and grow to her fullest potential.
Over the last 3 years, we have shared more than 21,000 books with over 30,000 children studying in 175 partner schools to make their libraries functional with the help of 900 volunteers and 150 school teachers.
One of these schools located in Hyderabad is proof of the tremendous potential of our solution. This school, which had no concept of reading sessions or a library in its curriculum until a year ago, now boasts of 40 fluent readers and budding storytellers because of SABIA's classroom intervention.
Our flagship program,the Library Development Program has a structured curriculum consisting of read-aloud Storytelling sessions, book browsing, and borrowing activities, library committee elections, and a library orientation program.
