DEW was founded in 2018 to make reading more accessible to children in need. To give them perspective on the world around them and to encourage them to form opinions, grow independently, and - to Dream.
We believe books impart so much more than knowledge; they come laden with wisdom on morals, that can help them lead full lives. Let them learn selflessness with Sara Crewe, Optimism in the face of adversity with Pollyanna, comprehend simplicity with Swami and courage with Harry; let them learn about the wars that shaped our world and the ideals that guide it today.
We currently work out of two centres in the JP Nagar area, and the response from the children has been overwhelming, they lap up the books that are given to them and actively ask for more. Their demands range from Harry Potter to Books about India and Egypt; and to Grandmother Stories. Sometimes they amuse us by making up to 50 pages of notes on the books they read and some are inspired to write stories of their own. This is a rudimentary example of the learning prowess that the mere presence of books inspires.
Their enthusiasm has inspired us to attempt to grow DEW. We're seeking funds to enable us to expand and set up libraries in the following centres ;
1. Leonard Cheshire Disability Trust, Old Airport Road - a home for speech and hearing disabled girls
2. Kamblipura - Our first rural centre in association with ProjectDEFY.
3. CSA. Centre for Learning, Ambedkar Nagar.
The funds will go a long way in helping us build a comprehensive library units. And any contributions would be greatly appreciated.
Join us in our crusade to convert word to thought and thought to action.
feel free to wite to us with any questions :)
