My sister, Sayee Kalyani, is a commerce graduate and a professional dancer. She is trained in both classical (Kathak) as well as contemporary & hip-hop dance styles. Since her childhood she has pursued her passion for dance and has participated and performed in numerous dance competitions and programs at various levels. She is also trained in Child Psychology and Dance Movement Therapy (DMT), which is an emerging field in the healthcare sector in India. She is working on developing her career by blending her skills from both these fields.
My sister has been passionate about pursuing a full-time career as a professional dancer, however, due to the ongoing financial crisis in our family, she has not been able to pursue it. Currently she is working as a Dance Teacher at a local primary school Ankur Vidyamandir, Pune, where she works closely with children with disabilities and special needs. Though she is dedicated in her work, it currently offers very limited scope, financial assistance and growth opportunity for her. She has been continuously in search of better opportunities since last two years, but the lack of proper mentoring support, exposure to the industry and access to relevant networks along with the financial constrains have severely limited her efforts and compelled her to make many compromises with her career.
She recently found a short program offered by Creative Movement Therapy Association of India (CMTAI) which provides these exact things that she requires to jump-start her career as a professional DMT practitioner. This course will not only offer the required training but also a platform and access to a network of professionals which will help her with getting better opportunities and overall career growth.
The course fees are 23,600/- including taxes. Though it’s a relatively small amount, currently we are not able to afford even this, as all of our combined income goes into repaying loans and barely covering medical expenses and the essential living costs. We are not in a position to incur any more loans, educational or otherwise, to pay the fees. We would deeply appreciate any and all the help that you can give to cover the course fee cost. If you cannot contribute, sharing this with people who might be able to will also be a huge help. This course will help her to pursue her passion of helping people, especially children with special needs, through her dance. She wishes to pay it forward by taking efforts to make DMT sector more accessible and inclusive and help future generations of dancers who wish to pursue this path.
