My name is Sankalp Sharma, and I am a Dancer and Choreographer. I have undergone training at esteemed institutions such as the Terence Lewis Company in India, Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance (NYC, U.S.A), and Peridance Capezio Center (NYC, U.S.A). My expertise spans across Contemporary, Modern (Graham Technique, Horton Technique, Simonson), and Ballet forms.

However, despite working with numerous professional dancers, I felt a sense of dissatisfaction. I yearned to channel my energy where it was needed the most - towards those who couldn't afford training and artistic exploration. This desire led me to a transformative experience when I had the opportunity to work with the children of Indian Women Impact. Inspired by their resilience and talent, I realised the profound impact I could have by empowering them through dance.

Motivated by this realisation, I made a decision to invite these underprivileged kids to Vinyasa Earth for a residency, sponsoring their stay and arranging mentors to work alongside me. Over the course of 20 days, these 14 kids will receive intensive training, culminating in the choreography of a dance production to be performed at the Rajasthan International Center in Jaipur as part of the first phase of our project.

I am thrilled to collaborate with Michael Maurissens, a talented dancer and choreographer from Brussels, known for his rich experience in dance. Together, along with Indian Women Impact, we are driven by a shared passion for leveraging art to create positive change, particularly in empowering communities in vulnerable situation..

Project Kalakar aims to break the cycle of poverty by instilling a love for creativity and providing practical skills to underprivileged children. Through their participation in the program, they will gain confidence, discipline, and a sense of empowerment, setting them on the path to a brighter future.

Phases:
The culmination of their journey will be showcased in three phases:

- Local Performance: The children will perform their dance production at Vinyasa Earth and prestigious performing art venues such as JKK or RIC, captivating local audiences with their talent and passion.

- National Tour: Taking their performance on the road, the children will travel to different parts of the country, spreading joy and inspiration through their art.

- International Showcase: As ambassadors of Indian culture, the children will have the opportunity to share their talents on the global stage, participating in international events and festivals.

The first phase of the project is scheduled for May/June 2024 and will take place at Vinyasa - the dance Ashram, an art residential space built using natural material and following sustainable lifestyle located in the outskirts of Jaipur.

If you feel connected to the project, I’d love to keep you informed on the project’s evolution. We are seeking for  financial support and contribution  in order to be able to work in best conditions.
