    This fundraiser will benefit

    Sustera Foundation

    from Kochi, Kerala

We at Cherish Expeditions along with Sustera Foundation have started the COVID-19 community support fundraising. It’s an emergency response to provide help for families which will help them survive this lockdown period

Place of activity -

Kerala has already been hit with NIPAH Virus, 2 back to back floods and now COVID-19. Major parts of Kerala are totally dependent on tourism and they are suffering due to these natural calamities. COVID-19 hit at the beginning of domestic tourism and it is Kerala’s peak festival season, the livelihood has come to standstill like many millions across the country.

For whom?

This fundraising exercise is for the Shikara community in Alleppey. These boat drivers are small scale daily wage workers feeding a family of four.
As there won’t be any income for the next couple of months and as these Shikara drivers are mostly working on an informal structure and not on a salaried basis, it will be a challenge for them to cope up with the situation. We have identified 50 Shikara and motorboat drivers and we would like to raise funds for the deserving.

How?

We aim to support these families directly by providing a minimum wage by transferring in their accounts.
We are requesting the blessed and fortunately privileged to perform an act of kindness by providing 2000 INR in the hands of people who really need help.
The amount will be transferred to 50 families from the Shikara Community at Alleppey.

How does the money reach the needy?

Cherish Expeditions along with the help of Sustera foundation, a non-profit organization working towards climate change adaptation and mitigation based out of Alleppey, Kerala works closely with the Shikara community.
With the huge network of Volunteers, friends, and social workers, Sustera has compiled a list of the local needy community.
We have collected names and details of 50 families who need the help urgently, we are in a process of collecting the information and transferring the fund directly to their account.
As a gesture of gratitude, the community will provide value addition for every 500 INR the donor contributes, he/she can avail a shikara ride any time in the coming 17 months during their visit to Alleppey. The duration of the ride will be 1 hour and the end date will be 31st December 2021. For availing this the donors can get in touch with the organizer.
