This is a call to raise funds for the waste pickers and sanitation workers who are cleaning our homes, streets and nature. During these risky times of COVID-19 pandemic, there are many villages and towns in which the waste pickers are still clearing the waste without enough safety precautions like sanitizing, wearing masks and gloves.
The solid waste management in our towns and cities does not have proper mechanisms to dealt with biomedical waste. As of today, most of these are still handled by the bare hands of waste pickers and sanitation workers.
On top of this, these people are ostracized gravely during the times of this pandemic. At this juncture, we want to put in our best efforts to protect these people from pandemic by providing sanitation kits and training them on safety protocols. This is extremely crucial as most of these are informal workers and do not have enough social protection.
We appeal to support our cause as we procure the sanitation kits and dry rations for our waste warriors.
