    This fundraiser will benefit

    Children of rural government school

    from Madurai, Tamil Nadu

We are a group of parents, who's daughters are studying in the government school located in a village near Madurai.

There's a saying which goes 'Children walk to school and run to home'.
Girls of a government school near Madurai run faster after school to their homes, and straight to the toilets. The reason being there aren't enough toilets and washrooms for this number of girls in the school. Having spent more than 6 continuous hours in school with limited sanitation facilities, the girls have no choice but to rush home.

The poor maintenance and low number of the existing toilets give the girl students no choice but to hold their urge until the final bell rings and they can run home. This agony becomes even more dreadful when young girls hit puberty and have to change their sanitary pads.

On one end we teach them the perils to the reproductive and excretory functioning when pads are not changed at regular intervals or not urinating, and on the other end, there are no basic, adequate facilities for the same. Lack of proper sanitation pose grave health concerns to young girls in many schools, which can have serious urinary and reproductive health issues in the future.

For 1024 girl students in the school, we have only 12 urinals in a usable state.
Whereas, UNICEF recommends 1 toilet (urinal) for every 25 girl students.

We need your support and cooperation to deliver basic amenities to all our girl students.

We wish to carry out the following works in school:
1. Renovation of existing toilets
2. Construction of new toilets
3. Provision for water storage
4. Water piping
5. Drinking water facility

Join hands with us to make sanitation a basic right.
